Designed Around the Problem
Some muscular areas of the back, hips, and gluteal region are too padded or difficult to approach with broad, surface-level pressure.
We designed a lightweight but structurally firm body-weight tool that holds its contact angles under pressure. Its sculpted ridges create more selective contact, while the central channel helps keep concentrated pressure on muscular areas beside the spine and sacrum
How the Design Works
-
Sculpted Contact Ridges
Six raised ridges create several areas of concentrated contact, allowing the tool to approach deeper or more padded muscular areas without using a motor.
-
Central Relief Channel
The paired structure leaves an open channel through the center, helping you position the contact ridges on the muscles beside the spine and sacrum rather than directly beneath them.
-
Reversible Curved Structure
Use the raised ridges for concentrated muscular contact, or turn the tool over and use the curved structure as a supportive surface for a gentle back stretch.
How to Use
- Begin on a bed or another padded surface. Position the central channel along the body’s midline and place the raised ridges on muscular areas beside the spine or sacrum.
- Keep your knees bent and your feet supported. Lower yourself onto the tool slowly and use your feet to make only small changes in position.
- Begin with a short session in one area. Lift your body away from the product before moving or turning it.
- A supportive chair offers greater control. A firm floor transfers more body weight into the contact ridges and should be used only after you are familiar with the positioning.
Is This Product Right for You?
-
This may suit you if
- You prefer firm, concentrated pressure rather than vibration.
- You want more depth than a soft foam roller or all-silicone surface provides.
- You want to work selectively across the back, hips, or gluteal area.
- You are comfortable controlling pressure through your body angle and weight.
- You want a compact tool for home or travel.
- You are willing to spend time learning the correct placement.
-
Consider another option if
- You prefer gentle or broadly distributed pressure.
- You want a soft lumbar-support cushion.
- You are highly sensitive to concentrated pressure.
- You cannot comfortably lower, lift, or reposition your body.
- You want heat, vibration, or powered kneading.
- You want several soft contact points covering a wider area at once.
What It Does Well — and What to Consider
-
What to consider
- The firm internal structure does not compress like foam.
- The contact can feel strong, particularly on a firm floor.
- Correct positioning may take several attempts.
- Body shape and natural padding affect how the ridges fit.
- It is not mechanically adjustable.
- Deep abdominal or psoas positioning is not suitable as a beginner self-massage technique.
-
What it does well
- Creates more concentrated contact than a broad foam or silicone surface.
- Holds its shape and pressure angles under body weight.
- Provides several contact ridges without requiring continuous hand effort.
- Can be used across the middle back, lower back, hips, and gluteal area.
- Offers both concentrated massage and supported stretching positions.
- Is compact and considerably lighter than the full-size Back Trigger Point Massager.
The Right Material for the Job
Concentrated body-weight pressure requires the structure to hold its designed angles.
- The high-strength aluminum alloy core prevents the sculpted ridges from collapsing or spreading apart under load.
- A silicone coating covers the structure to provide surface grip, limited cushioning, and a more controlled point of contact with the body.
- The aluminum provides structural strength. The silicone manages the contact. Each material has a specific job.
What to Expect
Depth Requires Control
This product is designed to create concentrated, structure-held pressure across selected muscular areas of the back, hips and gluteal region. With consistent use, it may help:
- reduce persistent deep muscular tightness in more padded or difficult-to-reach areas;
- improve tolerance to concentrated pressure;
- make the middle back, lower back, hips and gluteal region feel less stiff or guarded;
- support improved mobility by reducing resistance in chronically tight muscular areas;
- provide a more defined stretch-and-pressure experience than softer or broader tools.
Because the contact is more concentrated and the internal structure holds its shape under load, the effect is usually deeper and more specific than with a foam roller or softer full-surface tool.

FAQ
How firm is the massager?
It is intentionally firm and highly selective. The silicone provides limited cushioning, but the aluminum alloy core prevents the structure from collapsing under body weight. It should not feel like foam or a soft back cushion.
Which side should face my body?
Use the raised, sculpted ridges when you want concentrated muscular contact. Turn the product over when you want to use the curved structure as a supported back-stretching surface.
Where should I begin?
Begin on a bed or padded surface with your knees bent and feet supported. Position the tool beneath a muscular area of the middle or lower back where you can easily control your weight.
How should I position the central channel?
Align the open channel with the body’s midline so the raised ridges contact the muscles beside the spine or sacrum rather than applying concentrated pressure directly to them.
What should I do if it feels too strong?
Begin against a supportive chair, use a softer surface, place a folded towel over the contact ridges, or keep more of your weight supported through your feet. Move away immediately if the pressure feels sharp, numbing, radiating, or difficult to control.
How long should my first session be?
Begin with approximately three to five minutes in one position. Lift your weight away before repositioning the tool, and increase the duration only when the pressure remains comfortable and controlled.
Can it be used on the hips or gluteal area?
Yes. Position the ridges beneath the muscular part of the hip or gluteal area and shift your body weight gradually toward one side. Avoid concentrated pressure directly on the sacrum, tailbone, hip bone, or any area producing nerve-like symptoms.
Can it be used as a back stretcher?
Yes. Turn the tool over and use its curved structure as a supported surface beneath the back. This provides a passive extension position, but the product should not be described as correcting spinal alignment or treating a structural spinal condition.
How is this different from the Back Trigger Point Massager?
The Back Trigger Point Massager is a larger, heavier all-silicone tool with fourteen nodes. It provides broader, more stable multi-point contact across the back and gluteal area.
The Back Deep Tissue Massager is lighter and structurally firmer. Its aluminum alloy core and sculpted ridges create more concentrated pressure in a smaller area.
How is this different from the Shoulder Deep Tissue Massager?
The Shoulder Deep Tissue Massager has a compact, open shape designed mainly for selective positioning around the shoulder blades and upper-to-middle back.
The Back Deep Tissue Massager has a longer curved structure designed primarily for the middle back, lower back, hips, and gluteal area, with an additional supported-stretching orientation.

One amazing pain reliever for sure. I love mine
well worth the price, I LOVE IT
Excellent
This product has provided me with immediate relief. You have to start low and slow. However, it’s impact cannot be denied. Be gentle with yourself and don’t overdo it the first go round. But I carve out a little bit of my time each day to use this product because it has made a difference..
If you have super tight muscles, this will help release them. It uses bodyweight to relax tight spots. It's similar to a masseuse putting pressure on a tight muscle to try to get it to release (which usually requires you to breathe into the discomfort and mentally try to relax the muscle to the resistance). I am not going to say this is better than a licensed & trained masseuse (it's not), but when you need something to help try to loosen a tight spot between appointments, this might be worth a try (I needed to hit deep muscles [such as the illiac & psoas] and a massage gun wasn't effective for them; it's also really hard to relax while trying to give yourself a massage).Sometimes my muscles are so tight, laying on this is painful (it typically isn't comfortable). I alleviate that by taking a yoga block and placing it near this device or at a critical weight support point (shoulder, tailbone, neck, etc.) using it to offset my full weight and then as my muscles relax to the pressure, slowly work the block out until my full weight is on the device. It does alleviate the discomfort and I can feel the muscles move more fluidly afterwards. I will not say this is for everyone. It is uncomfortable starting out & I know some people may not be able to relax onto it.Also there is an instruction booklet in the box on how to place it and use it.
Finally, after seven years in pain, I have found something that gives me relief along with another tool of theirs. Nothing on the market competes I've tried everything, I have an old injury from a car accident, which is a compression fracture. I'm trying to avoid surgery and this little thing has been a godsend. I wish I could afford everything they sell.
The headline is intentional, as this device is not for those who do not appreciate the wisdom of this type of therapeutic device. Much like a theracane, it requires some trial and error, self learning about trigger points and how they respond, and understanding your personal challenges/issues.Just to be clear, I am not a workout warrior or fitness model/influencer. I am old dude who hurts more from doing nothing than something and wakes up sore and stiff unless I regularly exercise. I have a couple problem spots that result in chronic tendonitis (diagnosed tendonosis in rotator cuff and bicep as well as quad, hip flexor, and gluteus medius). It took me some time to figure out how this device and the other one they sell, as I bought both. This device was probably used as a torture device sometime in the past. But it also helped me dig into those areas and relieve some of the tension and increase the mobility while reducing the pain (will not eliminate the pain).I won't lie, I seriously considered returing this thing as the first few attempts were mostly pain. But with a little patience and tolerance of suffering, I found some uses for these that I have not found with a theracane, lacrosse ball, trigger point ball, etc... So it's staying in my bag of torture instruments. One piece of advice, find a decently sized open space on the floor with a little bit of padding to offset the discomfort you are about to inflict on yourself. Like most of these types of devices, some expert guidance is beneficial. After that, you just have to experiment carefully with an awareness of good, necessary pain vs pain that leads to injury. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is lack of guidance. The short video is a good start but honestly, there could be a series of them illustrating the different ways to position yourself and the device to apply pressure in the right spot and achieve the desired muscle release.
Good for knots in back
Every Little mum product I’ve bought has been extremely high quality. I wish I bought this sooner. I recommend them to everyone. I feel better now than I have in years
I knew I needed this soon as I saw it
I also bought one for the shoulders, but that one didn’t line up with my body. This one I can use in every way that it’s intended and get my back to crack and get my scalp taken care of and my neck. I turn it backwards. I turn it forwards.. I run it down my spine, my upper shoulders: more ways than they show examples of. It’s very capable of being used in a variety of ways and it brings relief. I recommend it.
Exactly what I was looking for -
This has done wonders for my lower back.
Meets my son’s needs so well! He absolutely loves it!!
This newer model of another beloved LittleMum tool is an aluminum "sculpture" coated with body-friendly silicone. I'm a chiropractor and practice yoga, grew up with chronic pain and always looking for more tools to help release adhesions, trigger points, and all the stuck tissues from old injuries that need constant care. This tool is AWESOME because of how firm and unmovable the metal structure is. That part doesn't give, but the silicone on top has not only a silky-smooth texture, but has the slightest amount of give to the material. The combo allows for a solid structure that you can put your body weight against, and also something that will give and glide into your tissues without creating much resistance. That said, sometimes full body weight is too much to bear on a tender body part. So then I incorporate a yoga bolster and prop some of my weight onto that while being able to dose the right amount of pressure and weight onto the contact point. Like laying on my side with my torso on the bolster, and allowing what I can tolerate with this wedged onto the side of my hip where all those IT band and glue med attachments can get so tight.I've found myself using this more often than the original psoas version (which I also LOVE, nothing can get in my hip flexors like that!) because the shape is more user-friendly. I can chill on this more and just wedge it in different spots all up and down my back and sacrum, down the back of my legs while laying face up watching TV. It's also easier for other people from what I've seen, as I've recommended the original to two people now who returned it because they couldn't quite figure out how best to use it, but ended up loving this version. There are so many options, and I've also used it behind my back while sitting in a chair. I like using it in place of a foam roller along my legs especially, I can take an hour on each leg just pausing at different magic spots to release. If you are into self myofascial release, do not hesitate to get this, there is just nothing else like it and it's so creatively shaped which makes it so endlessly useful!
this is really sturdy. Sometimes these things are flimsy, but this one is strong.
This is the fourth LittleMum product I've tried and now in my top 2 favorites, though probably the one I use the most. (One I returned because I didn't find it helpful, so I don't love them all blindly. :) )I was particularly interested in this for targeting my middle-lower back muscles that are deeper and harder to reach with most tools. It took some time finding ways to use this and positioning myself right, but now that I've figured it out, I really, really like it. Remember to rest with pressure for the most effect. The back stretch side is great for a quick stretch and relief. It can often immediately adjust something to make things feel more in alignment. The neck/head massage parts are hit or miss for me. I have other tools that are better, and the rubber coating can pull on my hair. But if nothing else is around, it's nice to have this option.I don't find it to be the right position or depth for the iliopsoas release that it advertises. Other tools seem to be much more effective for me, especially when you can customize their positioning and targeting for your unique physiology. But it's quite possible this would work for some people. It's also small and light enough that I've been able to pack it in a carryon for a work trip, knowing the travel would likely put strain on my back.
